Eboue slapped with FIFA ban, Sunderland terminate his contract

Ivory Coast international and Sunderland defender Emmanuel Eboue has been banned by FIFA from all football-related activity for a period of one year.

The 32-year-old’s suspension relates to a monetary dispute with his former agent, Sébastien Boisseau.

The suspension could see his contract with the Sunderland terminated.

“Eboue signed a contract with Sunderland AFC until the end of the current season and the club has therefore given notice of its intention to terminate the contract. The player has two weeks in which to appeal this decision,” the club said in an official statement on its website.

FIFA however said the ban would be lifted if he paid the outstanding amount to the agent.

Eboue was ordered to pay the undisclosed amount by FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee in July 2013, a decision taken on the basis of the players’ agents rules which were in force at the time.

The former Arsenal and Galatasaray player was fined 30,000 Swiss francs ($31,162) in September 2014 for failing to comply with the decision and given four months to settle the debt, FIFA said.
